At this point Summer is a distant memory. Although the weather here has been helping me to reminisce about some of my summer faves. This post is an ode to summer with a collection of a few of my favorite things that I'm missing hardcore.
Let's talk about a nice pedicure. I skip these all winter because I feel like there's not much of a point having perfect toes inside my boots and tennis. But in the summer I at least get one good pedicure to start the summer right. And I wear open toe sandals and flip-flops all summer long. Tennis shoes only go to the gym with this gal. Other than that, it's toes out all summer long.
We always take at least one trip to the lake with my husband's family. Although I'm not much of a camper. I do really enjoy spending a day or two at the lake. Trying out a new swimsuit and floating in the lake water. I love to feel the wind in my curly hair while we speed around in the boat pulling a skier. I even miss the smell of the dingy lake water.
I love driving around with the radio or my favorite cd on and the windows down. I usually buy a new cd or two this time of year and that will be become the music of the season. Something I can carry with me to cooler months to remind me of summer time.
One of my favorite past times in the summer is visiting Lacey's pool. And throwing a good old fashioned pool party at her house. It's the perfect way to cool off from the summer heat and to connect with friends and family. I also love throwing parties because themes are my jam. Check out this post to see a past summer pool party.
Gardening is one of my top favorites of summer. There's something amazing about planning a garden and watching it come to fruition. I love bringing in arms full of bounty. Sharing my love of gardening with my children is also a joy. My baby girl loves to spend time picking sweet berries and eating as many as possible. My son loves to try new things in the garden and I just love the whole experience.
My family enjoys taking long walks in the summer evenings. We love listening to the cicadas sing and to watch the squirrels running up and down the trees. Sometimes our dog, Dot, joins us. We bring the wagon along every once in awhile and the kids take turns riding with the dog.
The last thing I'm going to reminisce about is what I like to call the taste of summer. If you haven't tried Pineapple Whip yet, let me tell you, you are missing out. This seasonal treat is where it's at. It's summer personified in a non dairy treat. It's hip shakin' good and once you try it you'll long for the whip solstice. (the one week during the winter that they open) Trust me and check it out!
